Follow Fashion, But Do Not Follow Fashion Blindly

The fashion world has taken us for a spin in these last few years with the varying rotations of styles; from fitted dresses to baggy denim, and then back around to the vintage vibes yet modern Kanye fits. How do you follow fashion trends while still maintaining your style and values? How do you shop when the stores you love have such a combination of styles? Use the Fashion World as Inspiration Flip through your favourite fashion magazines such as Vogue or Elle, browse your favourite fashion site, and build an inspiration board either in your mind, on paper (keep a page in your planner for ideas), or electronically (Canva or even Word will do the trick). Make notes of colours, patterns, and outfit ideas and combinations. Write down the brands that catch your attention; you’ll likely want to go back to them for more inspiration later.  Another little activity I’ve always liked to do is find a few “muses” that you can get inspired from. Find someone who has a similar body shape to yours, as well as someone who has the type of style that you like – in a perfect world this would be one person, but…

5 Fashion Pieces I’m Currently Obsessed With #OOTD

Coat – Wilfred, The Only CoatHat – Tommy HilfigerScarf – MangoKnit Vest – ZaraPants – BuffaloBag – ChylakShoes – Louis Vuitton When it comes to my style, I’d say I’ve been around the block and back again in terms of experimenting with different styles and clothes. After many years of this, I feel that I have now found my “uniform” and know what works, what I love, and what to stay away from. I think too, that this all comes with age and experience though – there’s something about the fact some clothes just look better on a younger age group; and vice versa. When it comes to my current “uniform”, especially for the cooler months, there are a few things that I obsess over and wear repeatedly. This is to the extent that I even purchase the same items but in different colours or patterns. A Well-Tailored Wool Coat A well-tailored wool coat is a must-have for warmth and fashion at this point in my life. A wool coat is such a versatile piece that it can be worn both business and casual – with heels, boots, and even running shoes. At a recent Holt Renfrew Fall Preview event…

This Vest is Older than my Marriage #OOTD

Vest – Bought from a local market in Zakopane, PolandKnit Sweater and Jeans – ZaraBag – Lasocki Boots – Django and Juliette  Another beautiful Autumn weekend is behind us, and if it wasn’t for my phone’s gentle reminder that it’s November, I would have to pretend that it’s still September. The weather in Ontario has been greeting us with higher-than-average temperatures, along with sunny blue-sky days. We might even be at that point now where we are scared to talk about how lucky we feel with this weather, just to not jinx it.  Nevertheless, we have been truly blessed with the most wonderful weather this Autumn, and hopefully, these positive attitudes can continue to shine bright through those upcoming cold snowy days. In keeping with my Polish Brands outfit trend (I told you I have many), let’s talk about this #OOTD. This vest is also older than my children; combined. For as long as I can remember, as a child, travelling to Zakopane in Poland was an incredible experience. Zakopane is located in the Polish mountains and is known for having its own Polish-style culture – defined by the dreamy landscapes, warming hearty meals, and natural way of life.  In terms…

SALE Season: Sephora Edition

As with every November, comes the SALE season. Personally, when I hear the word SALE, my body automatically sits up straighter; I love a good sale, just like many of you I assume. Since becoming a mom, a lot of my “play funds” are allocated towards my children, and even more so, I feel guilty sometimes purchasing something for myself instead of my children – even though these kids have everything they need. Nevertheless, even before I became a Mama I’ve been conscious of my spending habits – I splurge where “necessary” but whenever possible, saving money on products is my top priority. This rule goes for everything fashion related; clothing, accessories, cosmetics, footwear. Of course, some things never go on sale – thanks LV for not abiding by the joys of sales – but this is where we can decide to splurge and save. Sharing sales can sometimes be a tricky thing, as prices, promo codes, and discounts can change frequently. So instead of creating posts with current sales, I’m going to create posts with inspirations for when you do get a chance to go shopping. First off, cosmetics! Starting with Sephora, I thought I’d share my Wishlist with…

The Power of Layering: Mastering Comfort and Style Simultaneously

Thanks Mom, even now as an adult I still always wear a tank top under my shirt. Growing up European made me more conscious of my fashion choices; especially when it came down to dressing appropriately – I’d say that’s my personal opinion, but in speaking with other “European kids” I think we’re all on the same page. There’s something about Europe and Fashion that has always collided so gracefully – is it the idea that fashion trends start in Europe, is it that people and places in Europe have such deep culture and style? How about both of the above, plus a little bit more? One of the first things our mothers ever taught us about fashion (without even knowing it probably) was the art of layering – which they so gracefully called; dressing in onion fashion. I believe Shrek also used this reference, in the form of “Ogres are like onions, Ogres have layers”. The power of layering is something we should all be investing our energy in; especially in climates where it’s cold in the mornings with temperatures rising by the afternoon. Layering clothing is not only practical but also very fashionable; let’s have a look. Understanding…

#OOTD: Autumn, a new season of fashion and food to embrace

Coat – Vistula, mens collection (my husbands)Knit Sweater – Gap CanadaJeans – ZaraBoots – Lasocki Bag – ChylakHat – Juicy Couture In Canada, we are lucky enough to have four seasons – ask me about this again in the middle of a winter storm or unbearable humidity, but the truth is, I have learned to enjoy and embrace it all. With each season a new set of clothing and meals to embrace. Maybe that sounds a bit dramatic, but the truth is that an apple pie tastes best in October, while a strawberry smoothie is best in the summer. Along with our change in taste, our style evolves accordingly. The first thing we do when adjusting from summer to autumn is we begin layering our clothing; and there’s an entire article series on the topic of layering, starting with this post. Since most days during the fall it’s cold in the morning, with temperatures rising during the day, the difference can be quite drastic in terms of our fashion choices. You can go from wearing a puffy coat in the morning, to just a hoodie in the afternoon. My go-to autumn uniform is a pair of comfy jeans, a cozy…
